Requests, Virtual Catalog, and Out-of-Network Loans

With your library card, you can borrow materials from any of the libraries in the C/W MARS network. To request an item from another C/W MARS library, you have several options. You can request the item yourself from the catalog, either at the library or at home; you can bring your card to the Help Desk or the Main Desk and ask one of the librarians to request an item for you; you can email your request to librarian@greenfieldpubliclibrary.org; or you can call us on the phone. If calling or emailing, we ask that you limit your requests to two items. If you are at the library, we may ask you to complete a Request Form for additional items.

Virtual Catalog

If the item you want isn't in our catalog or the C/W MARS Union Catalog, you can request it from the Virtual Catalog. The Virtual Catalog comprises most of the library networks and academic libraries in Massachusetts.

Out-of-Network Loans

If the item you want isn't in either the C/W MARS or Virtual catalogs, we can still request it for you from a library outside of the C/W MARS network. To make an Out-of-Network request, you must have a valid C/W MARS library card in good standing. Fill out one of our blue Out-of-Network Loan Request forms, and we will notify you once the item arrives here. Out-of-Network requests may have a loan period that is shorter than three weeks, and can take up to a month to arrive in Greenfield if your request is difficult to locate. These requests can also be made by phone or email.

Reminder: Materials that come from the Virtual Catalog or from outside of our Network come with a book band around the front cover that tells you when the item is due and where came it from. We ask that you do not remove these bands as they let us know at a glance where the item needs to be returned.
