Everywhere
Beginning Monday, September 20th, adults, teens and children are invited to participate in the Greenfield Public Library’s Reading for Change Project. In collaboration with Greenfield Community College and Greenfield High School, the GPL will be participating in a community read of Jamil Zaki's groundbreaking book: The War for Kindness: Building Empathy in a Fractured World.
In The War for Kindness, Zaki describes research-informed strategies for increasing kindness and empathy in a world characterized by racial inequality, political polarization and decreasing trust in social institutions. The goal of the community-reading program is to help expand people’s awareness of their world and the diversity it offers through arts and literature. Copies of the book will be available at the library.
Please join us for a virtual kickoff event on Thursday, September 23, at 6 pm. The event will include introductions, an overview of the project, and a community building exercise! It will be helpful, though not necessary, to have read the first three chapters The War for Kindness prior to the event. Copies of the book will be available at the Greenfield Public Library.

In addition to the reading project, the GPL will have a “Kindness Corner”, with information, activities, reading suggestions and kindness challenges to help strengthen our empathy muscles.
The library is also offering a program on its Beanstack reading portal, which highlights diverse authors and experiences.
